More About

Wendy Kesselman's adaptation of the dark and stirring real-life World War II story arrives in a new production at the Sabes Jewish Community Center. Anne Frank's diary—kept by a young Jewish girl in hiding with her family from the Nazis in World War II—has helped to bring the reality of the Holocaust to generations of readers and viewers. Kesselman's 1997 update takes Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett's play from 1955 and incorporates additional material from Frank's original writings, emphasizing the smothering darkness that they lived in during those two years in Amsterdam. Kesselman also worked to bring back the cultural and ethnic side of those in hiding, which had been largely removed from the original adaptation. Anya Kremenetsky directs. Also, "Art Survives: Expressions from the Holocaust" is on display at the center, and features the work of five Holocaust survivors. A private tour of the exhibit will be held following the Sunday, October 30, performance. (Photo by Megan Engeseth)
Thursdays, Saturdays, 7:30 p.m.; Sundays, 2 p.m.; Mon., Oct. 31, 7:30 p.m. Starts: Oct. 29. Continues through Nov. 6, 2011
