More About

James Sewell's bright and edgy company looked great on the stage of the Goodale Theater at the opening of the Cowles Center for Dance & the Performing Arts in September. For its inaugural season there, Sewell has cooked up a twist on The Black Swan pas de deux (lovely and lethal, we suspect), and continues the Gothic theme in a new Halloween-inspired ballet. Revivals include the exquisite "Mendelssohn Trio," which showcases Sewell's extraordinary musicality, and excerpts from "Social Movements," a topical take on the rights of individuals to choose marriage partners. In addition to the regular performance, JSB puts on a great First Chance Dance show, which features 60 minutes of kid-friendly excerpts for $10, and the kids get to come in costume.
Fridays, Saturdays, 8 p.m.; Sundays, 2 p.m. Starts: Oct. 21. Continues through Oct. 30, 2011
