More About

Director F.W. Murnau's landmark 1922 silent film borrowed (without permission) its plot from Bram Stoker's Dracula, but made significant changes and brought in a German Expressionist vision all its own. The action begins in northern Germany, where a maniacal real-estate agent sends his foolish clerk, Hutter, to Transylvania. There, Hutter must close a deal with house-hunting Count Orlok, played by a brilliantly made-up Max Schreck, who lives up to his surname ("Schreck" means "terror" in German). Murnau's exacting eye, along with his use of negative images, fast motion, montage, and other innovative techniques and special effects make for a consistently arresting film. Since most of Hans Eerdmann's original score has been lost, Nosferatu is an ideal candidate for re-imagined sound. Here, the live score will be provided by pianist and composer Daniel Lloyd.
