Few actors can claim the range of John Lithgow, who's been lauded for his performances on stage and on screens both big and small. Born into a family of professional theater people and weaned on Shakespeare, Lithgow has the gravitas of a stately British actor but an American's rebelliousness, veering from Tony-winning Broadway roles to a turn as a transgendered football player (The World According to Garp) to officious heavies (Footloose, Kinsey) to delightfully broad TV comedy (Third Rock from the Sun). His career spans four decades and continues going strong, with notable recent appearances as a devious serial killer in Dexter to a supporting turn that provided the emotional core of Rise of the Planet of the Apes. Lithgow is also something of a Renaissance man, having written several albums of songs and a book for children, as well as a recent memoir, Drama: An Actor's Education. He'll sit down with fellow jack of many trades Garrison Keillor to discuss his wide-ranging career. The interview is part of a series presented by Keillor's own shop, Common Good Books. Each purchase of a ticket will come with a voucher for $10 off Lithgow's memoir. (Image by David Shankbone)
