More About

In 1982, Twyla Tharp premiered "Nine Sinatra Songs" with her own dance company, after choreographing a duet "One More Frank," and exploring turn-of-the-century exhibition and ballroom dancing for the movie Ragtime. Her fascination with the music of Ol' Blue Eyes has continued ever since, and reached its apex with Tharp's 2010 Broadway spectacle Come Fly Away. In this dance musical—a far cry from the sinuously seductive swirl of her earlier Sinatra-inspired world—Tharp fills the stage with elastic dancers performing her fast, flashy choreography. Love and lust, defiance and dedication, rejection and irritation play out in jutting hips, arched backs, shooting legs, come-hither looks, and gravity-defying moves. It's not quite Dancing with the Stars—there's more charm and artistry—but it's dazzling nevertheless. (Photo by Joan Marcus)
Tuesdays-Sundays, 7:30 p.m.; Saturdays, Sundays, 2 p.m. Starts: Oct. 11. Continues through Oct. 16, 2011
