More About

A cache of insurance training materials from the 1920s inspired Ryan Lear's latest piece for Four Humors, The Extraordinary Terms of Ordinary Life. He discovered the manuals, which were created in 1929, at a garage sale. Lear found the optimistic tone to be an intriguing counterpoint to the economic darkness that lay just months ahead. Working with Matt Spring (one of the collaborators on Live Action Set's amazing 7 Shot Symphony), Lear tells a tale of an ambitious young insurance agent who finds his dreams at odds with the darker reality of the world. It was a very different world than the one we see today, though the issues from 80 years ago are back in force. All of this, however, isn't used for a lecture, but for a comedic take on the situation, Lear says. There's music as well, led by music director Andrea Leap. The acting company includes Jon Mac Cole, Andy Kraft, Ryan Nelson, Garrett Volmer, Kat Wodtke, Alisa Mattson, Rachel Petrie, and Mark Rehani.
Mondays, Thursdays-Sundays, 7 p.m.; Saturdays, 2 p.m. Starts: Sept. 22. Continues through Oct. 1, 2011
