More About

Since 9/11, many Twin Cities artists have addressed the politics, emotions, casualties, and realities of war through their work. The incomparable Harriet Bart is one of these artists. Her sculptures, including Enduring Afghanistan, a map of chain link and dog tags, are among the artworks engaged in exploring the consequences of a day seared into memory, one that reverberates in the ongoing wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. The five other artists in the show— Laura Crosby, Vesna Kittelson, Ana Lois-Borzi, Megan Rye, and Megan Vossler—also create evocative works using photography, oil on canvas, and crayon or graphite on paper. The intention of the exhibition is to bridge any emotional distance between "us" and "them." After the opening reception from 5 to 7 p.m., stay for the panel at 7 p.m., which features local heavyweights in art history and political activism: Jane Blocker, Patricia Briggs, and Camille J. Gage. The opening event is Thursday, September 15. (Harriet Bart)
