More About

Punk poet Paul D. Dickinson and intellectual-property attorney John Provo will make an unlikely pairing at what is sure to be a fascinating evening in the MAEP galleries. They'll be presenting pieces in response to the space's current exhibits, Adam Caillier and Michael Mott's "Finally, We Are All Young Again" and Scott Nedrelow's Movie, respectively. Dickinson, who's known for his short, personal, pithy poems, is endeavoring to create a longer, more epic piece for the occasion, responding to the work in a 15-minute poem about dreams, desire, and the synergy of urban energy. The poem itself is striving toward more universal themes. "This is artistically a big reach for me," Dickinson says. Usually, he has a set list (like at a rock show), but for this event he'll be doing the whole thing from memory. As for Provo, who is a partner and head of Mason's Intellectual Property and Technology Services Group, which has counseled the MIA for 40 years, he'll be using his expertise to talk about Movie, a video-and-sound installation that resulted from Nedrelow recording numerous visits to see Darren Aronovsky's Black Swan. According to MAEP Coordinator Christopher Atkins, Provo will talk about Nedrelow's show and show some past examples of fair use that have been particularly important for arguing these kinds of cases.
