Ever try to sit through a movie with someone in the audience riffing on every single scene? How about five of them? That's exactly what the original crew of Mystery Science Theater 3000 is set to deliver this weekend when they bring Cinematic Titanic LIVE! to the Parkway Theater. MST3K creator Joel Hodgson and company are reuniting for a rare Twin Cities appearance as they take movie riffing to a whole new level with three unique shows. And despite what most of think of your run-of-the-mill hecklers, Hodgson says that the crowds are just as excited about the show as they were over a decade ago. "It's been amazing. The show hasn't been on for 13 years, and yet new fans are finding it by watching tapes or searching for it on YouTube," he says. "I once read a review that stated that 'history has been kind to Mystery Science Theater 3000,' and I believe that to be true." Aside from entertaining audiences, the gang are still enjoying themselves, too. "The best shows come from when the cast is having a good time and making each other laugh. I still love performing and writing, and I'll keep doing it until people don't want to see me do it anymore." If history is any indication, that won't be for a long time. Doomsday Machine screens Thursday, Friday's feature is War of the Insects, and Saturday finishes the run with Rattlers. All ages. All shows are rated PG.
