More About

This Sunday, Minneapolis will be joining the cool kids—New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago—and hosting its very first Swap-O-Rama-Rama. Here, folks will show up with $10 (or $5 and a bag of unwanted clothes), and proceed to make the dated new. DIY artists will be stationed at tables ready to help with sewing, screen printing, stenciling, and other modifications. With several thousand pounds of clothes to choose from sorted into piles—from pants to sweaters to skirts to shirts—participants should feel free to experiment, as the fun is in the collaboration and getting tips from other artsy types. "If you try something and it doesn't work out, throw it back in the pile," says Karin Fitchett, events coordinator of the Twin Cities Maker group, a co-op of artists, engineers, and wood and metal workers with a flair for planning unusual events that mix art with mechanical science. "It's okay whatever happens," she says. "All of the clothes that aren't used are donated at the end." (Photo by Steevithak)
