Originally set to happen earlier this summer, the New Belgium Urban Assault Ride was forced to reschedule due to issues surrounding securing a liquor license during the government shut-down. But thank goodness it did, because the beer will be flowing plentifully following the ride. The daylong challenge aims to demonstrate how fun and easy it is to get around Minneapolis via two wheels. Teams of two show up in the morning, figure out a route (plan for 25 to 30 miles of biking), then take to the streets. Checkpoints along the way involve silly games and obstacle courses, including things like human bowling, paper-boy relays, and mini-trike obstacle courses. Afterward, folks will enjoy beer, enter to win prizes, and feel accomplished. Proceeds benefit MORC and MOCA. For more info, visit www.urbanassaultride.com.
