Set in St. Paul, Vestments is a gritty, honest novel about James Dressler, a priest whose faith is questioned when his past resurfaces in unexpected ways. Complicated love, the intricacies of the Catholic Church, violent families, and unforgiving questions haunt James on his search for a faith that coincides with his personal life. St. Paul takes on the role of a character as well through the richness and depth of the descriptions of the city. Reimringer's readable writing style alludes to his background as a newspaper editor, yet there's also a lyrical quality to his work. Vestments is his first novel, and it won the 2011 Minnesota Book Award for Novel and Short Story. An excerpt from the work also appeared in the Fiction on a Stick: Stories by Writers from Minnesota anthology before it was published. The author currently teaches at Normandale Community College and lives in St. Paul with his wife, poet Katrina Vandenberg. Thursday's event will launch the paperback edition of the book, and the reading is eligible for the new Twin Cities Literary Punch Card, which is sponsored by the five powerhouse Minneapolis literary organizations: Milkweed Editions (which published Vestments), Coffee House Press, Graywolf Press, the Loft Literary Center, and Rain Taxi.
