More About

The Bryant-Lake Bowl continues to make its presence known as a hotspot for avant-garde performance with its new series Pleasure Rebel, featuring artists working in dance, performance art, and video. Curator Natalie Bogira takes the helm for this installment, presenting Jaime Carrera, Kelley Meister, and Molly Van Avery in new works meant to entertain and challenge audiences. Carrera says his piece is completely different from anything he's done before. "It's a bit more multimedia," he says, "and a bit more casual." In lieu of traditional music, Carrera utilizes short, pre-recorded monologues throughout the movement sections to investigate the truth about being an artist, the myth of modern individuality, and the differences between past and present gay gender identity. Carrera brings a team of artists, including fashion designer Adam Miller, writer Kyle Potter, and artist/musician Eric Hofferber. Also on Wednesday's bill, Kelley Meister seeks queer paradise away from capitalism, radioactivity, mass extinction in the ocean, and catastrophic collapse. Performance artist Molly Van Avery will do what she does best: create a piece that is poignant, self-deprecating, and has a quirky sense of humor. (Photo: Jaime Carrera)
