With gay marriage continuing to be hot-button issue in Minnesota, especially with next year's ballot, it's a good time for a show like Parallel Lives. The piece, crafted by Mo Gaffney and Kathy Najimy, played Off-Broadway for eight years before becoming an HBO special. The local Candid Theater Company brings it to Minneapolis as a look into the issue, but it's also a story told with humor, says producer Justin Kirkeberg. The show features a series of skits that delve into the lives of the characters, including a pair of supreme beings setting up "roles" at the beginning of time. Playing the two roles in the show are Julie Dayfdd (longtime Lavender Magazine columnist) and Katherine Preble, the artistic director of Unraveling Muses and Candid Theater Company. Kirkeberg hopes that "everyone who comes to see this show will find someone that they can connect with or that is telling a similar story to their own."
Thursdays-Saturdays, 7:30 p.m. Starts: Aug. 18. Continues through Aug. 27, 2011
