You can tell from previous years' festival titles ("A Hmong Us," "Dreaming in Hmong," "No Word for Art"—a reference to the fact that there's no word for "art" in Hmong) and this year's title ("Status Update") that the hive mind behind this event is youthful and witty. Returning to Western Sculpture Park in St. Paul, home to one of the largest Hmong-American populations in the country, this family-friendly outdoor celebration of arts and music put on by CHAT (the Center for Hmong Arts and Talent) features local hip-hop group Pupils of the Storm among many other performers, as well as cultural dance, Hmong artists from across the U.S., film, fashion, food, games, and kids' activities.
