Introduced in 2009, the Soap Factory's Common Room series has been an August destination for arts enthusiasts seeking an interactive community. In the past, curators Andy Sturdevant and Sergio Vucci have developed happenings and programs ranging from tours, to book clubs, to game nights, to gift exchanges, to an evening exploring the many phalluses of the once-in-vogue Chatroulette. Originally defined by its four walls, this year's event will move outside, utilizing public spaces to find the same interactive community in the larger context of Minneapolis. Participants will have the opportunity to engage with the city via bicycle, foot, and rail in a series of four tours. Events begin August 10 and continue every Wednesday until the end of the month. Sturdevant and Vucci, along with Bill Lindeke and Peter Haakon Thompson, will lead visitors on trips to railways, city sidewalks, and olfactory hot-spots (factories, spice stores, and exhaust vents, to name a few). The series culminates in a Wish List Tour, which aims to "present something new for even the most experienced Minneapolitans." (Pictured: Tour guides Andy Sturdevant and Sergio Vucci)
