Don't be put off by the grabby yet familiar surface details of this amazing Texas band's dance-noise-pop amalgam--so Anglophilic, they titled their recent second album Colour Trip. Plenty of groups have sounded like the Shop Assistants, the Jesus and Mary Chain, My Bloody Valentine, the Cocteau Twins, or early Stereolab, but how many have sounded like them all? Or written hooks good enough that (sacrilege) you might like them better than the queasy MBV? The gorgeous "Other Things" transcends comparison, and even the Brian Jonestown Massacre-like band name is funnier the more you think about it.
