More About

Can a series of sculptures and installations work as a memoir? Artist Mark Manders strives to convey the emotions, thoughts, and memories of his day-to-day life through objects. It is a project he has been working on since 1986, combining furniture, taxidermy, architectural scraps, and everyday items to create his own language of human experience. "He thinks of his sculptures as the physical equivalent of poetry, putting one object next to another as a poet would do with words," exhibition co-curator Douglas Fogle explains. After taking in Manders's pieces you may find yourself reevaluating the meaning and language of your own personal effects as well. (Balancing Act)
