Florence and the Machine finally make their long-awaited live debut in Minnesota at the comfortable outdoor confines of the Minnesota Zoo. While the swelling buzz (and numerous ensuing accolades) bestowed on frontwoman Florence Welch has grown wildly since the release of her spirited debut, Lungs, way back in 2009, she has, until now, consistently skipped our area, which is clearly packed with fans who have been waiting patiently to see her perform (causing the show to sell out quickly). Welch's songs are heartfelt and whimsical, driven by her buoyant spirit and a stellar backing band that can grow to seven members strong during some shows. No matter how long we've had to wait to hear them, Florence and the Machine's soaring anthems are bound to sound sweet under the summer stars on a (hopefully) tranquil June evening in Minnesota. With Hanni El Khatib.
