Moments Extended

It is not uncommon for parents and children to share the same interests and enthusiasms, be it sports teams, music, or cooking. For Joe and Kara Hendershot one may say that their common bond is art. Joe teaches photography and darkroom techniques while Kara works as a painter and illustrator. For "Moments Extended" the father-and-daughter team has collaborated to create an exhibition that merges their two mediums of choice into one final product. Each piece featured in the show starts with one of Joe's black-and-white photographs exploring the cityscapes and urban areas of Toronto, Detroit, and Chicago during the '70s. Kara then folds her own dream-like, narrative style of painting into the work. The effect is artwork that appears pegged to a specific moment in time, yet still has a timeless quality that speaks to memories and daydreams. The opening reception is from 7 to 11 p.m. Saturday, June 11.
June 11-July 10, 2011
