Deutsche Tage: German Days

The yearly Deutsche Tage (German Days) celebration, held by the Germanic-American Institute (GAI), has rolled around again. First, get your Von Trapp fashion fix at the fourth annual Lederhosenlauf 5K Run. The best traditionally costumed guy and gal at the event will each bag a prize. After the run, enjoy a free beer, brat, and bagel. Not into running? A health walk will be taking place simultaneously, followed by a free quarter-mile run for kids. In the late afternoon, the Sommerparty starts under the tent. Like an Oktoberfest held in June, there will be live music and dancing, and perhaps even some sloshing of beer and singing of German drinking songs. After 10 p.m., DJ Ben will be breaking out the Euro pop for the discotheque crowd. The celebration continues on Sunday with more food, beer, live music, and family-friendly activities. There will also be haus history tours, German gift vendors, and an antique car show. The 5K run is $30-$40 Saturday, June 11, at 8:05 a.m.; the Sommerparty is free from 5 p.m. to midnight Saturday; and the Deutsche Tage Celebration is free from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
Sat., June 11, 8 a.m., 5-10 & 10 p.m.-2 a.m.; Sun., June 12, 11 a.m.-5 p.m., 2011
