Live Racing

While many consider summertime prime baseball season, that's not the only sport that people look forward to. Last weekend marked the end of the second leg of the Triple Crown with the Preakness Stakes. While the final winner of this trilogy of races will be determined in June at New York's Belmont Stakes, there's still plenty of racing to see locally. Open Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays (plus Thursdays starting June 16), the track feature races and, most often, different themes. Thursday is referred to as Buck Night and features one-dollar specials on certain food and drinks. Friday typically offers live music and happy-hour specials. Sunday is more family-oriented, with pony rides, face paintings, and a petting zoo. Other scheduled happenings include a Craft Beer Festival June 24, the annual Fourth of July festivities, and a cigar-friendly event August 6. (Canterbury is currently closed due to the government shut down)
Thursdays, Fridays, 1:30 p.m.; Saturdays, Sundays, 7 p.m.; Sun., July 3, 4 p.m. Starts: May 20. Continues through Sept. 5, 2011
