Historic Pub Crawl

It's time to party like it's 1929. This Wednesday, the Preservation Alliance of Minnesota is hosting a guided pub crawl. The event begins at Brit's Pub and stops at historic bars along the way, including the Local, Prohibition, and Gluek's. Minneapolis has always had its fair share of whimsical and eccentric personalities, such as Wilbur Foshay, who was a cross between Bernie Madoff and Jay Gatsby. Foshay's lifelong dream was realized when he constructed the Foshay Tower, currently home to Prohibition. When his Ponzi scheme came to light in 1932, the following trials were a spectacle, to say the least. Reporters spied on the jury with binoculars, and the Minneapolis woman who hung the jury later committed suicide. For the whole baffling story, attend the tour. Booze and good conversation—nothing's better. Proceeds go toward preserving Minnesota's cultural heritage. Tickets and information are available at www.mnpreservation.org. (Photo by mattdente)
