(Anti)Wrecking Ball

When times are financially tough, building maintenance is often neglected. And while it's always sad to see a storefront shutter its windows, it is especially unfortunate when it happens to a space with a great deal of history. At (Anti)Wrecking Ball, the Preservation Alliance of Minnesota will announce and celebrate its Ten Most Endangered Places for 2011. Each year, the group nominates a handful of historic and notable properties, which are then revealed at the party. Guests then can vote on the locations they would like to see receive a seed grant. Past nominees have included Minnesota's oldest Dairy Queen in Roseville, the Samuel J. Hewson House in Minneapolis, and the Saint Louis County Jail in Duluth. During the festivities there will also be an art raffle, food and drink available for purchase, and live music from folk group the Steamboat Kings. For details visit www.mnpreservation.org.
