Hotdish Revolution

Dig deep into your Midwestern mama's recipe collection and get out your best 11x13-inch baking dish. This is the seventh annual Hotdish Revolution, brought to you by the good people of the Holland Neighborhood Improvement Association. Cooking competitors from all over the Twin Cities who are looking to throw down, casserole-style, are invited to drop off their finest dishes between 4 and 4:30 p.m., with the general public allowed in at 5 p.m. It's a heavy-duty contest with this year's categories set as caliente (hot), quintessential, tater tot, vegetarian, I made it myself (for those aged 15 and under), and Jell-O, which is always a fan favorite. Once the local celeb judges decide the winners, everyone gets a chance to dig in and wash it all down with beverages compliments of Grumpy's and Central Avenue Liquors. Irish folk band the Jolly Groggers will add aural accompaniment, and the organizers will raffle off donated gifts from a variety of Northeast businesses. Proceeds benefit the Holland Neighborhood Improvement Association. (Photo by Colin Kloecker)
