37th Annual MayDay Parade and Festival

If you're still miffed over the lingering cool weather, this Sunday's MayDay Parade and Festival should be a welcome event, as it colorfully ushers in spring. The parade, a "walking theatrical performance" composed of In the Heart of the Beast staff artists and friends, begins at 25th Street East and Bloomington Avenue South, travels south on Bloomington to 34th Street, and ends at Powderhorn Park. There, the Tree of Life Ceremony will commence while onlookers watch in hypnotized awe as the large, beautiful, hand-built puppets tell the story of the season. The festival is not only about the celebration of community and spring, but is also about eating delicious foods. Be sure to munch on some cheese curds or mini donuts while you're feeling the springtime groove, and read up on community groups at one of the many information tables set to line the park.
