Spring means a delightful anticipation for the 37th Annual MayDay Parade at Powderhorn Park. Tonight, the Minneapolis Institute of Arts (MIA) and In the Heart of the Beast Puppet and Mask Theatre (HOTB) will host Make Way for MayDay as part of the MIA's Third Thursday program, a monthly affair in which the museum opens its doors to folks wanting to dance, drink, and collaborate artistically. HOTB will bring their groovy community-partner vibe inside the gallery walls to host a mini-MayDay Parade with accompanying drums. The mascot of this year's festival is the crow: a moody, clever little creature of mythological significance. Event organizers will host a bird-mask-making session. There will also be a flower-making session, music by local band Fort Wilson Riot, and a cash bar in the lobby.
Thu., April 21, 6-9 p.m., 2011
