Wits: Chuck Klosterman

The first installment of this year's season of Minnesota Public Radio's Wits at the Fitzgerald Theater kicked off the rapid repartee radio program with a bang. Comedian Patton Oswalt delighted in his exchanges with host John Moe and even treated the audience to an impromptu scat session about "poison dart murders" abetted by co-host/musical sidekick John Munson. While Oswalt will be a tough act to follow in the hot seat on a program that specializes in random riffs, this month's featured guest, Chuck Klosterman, should prove up to snuff. He is, after all, a cultural critic who specializes in quirky but sincere reassessments of pop-culture phenomena (think Saved by the Bell as vehicle for self-discovery). Also on hand tonight to supply some added rock 'n' roll punch will be the Hold Steady's Craig Finn, a man who has made an acclaimed musical career out of elevating seemingly mundane adolescent moments like teenage keg parties into transcendent listening experiences via the infusion of witty wordplay and massive riffs.
