When you think about it, it's a little amusing that we glamorize grimy bar culture. Whether it's the visceral experience of being in a crowd, the blur of booze and drugs, or gleeful randomness that a night in a dive can bring, there's something undeniably enjoyable about night life. For the group show "Sweat Stains, Beer, and Cigarettes," artists will pay tribute to this culture, from the tobacco-stained walls, to the smelly armpits, to the screaming rocker who you feel a hazy nostalgia for the next day as your ears ring. Sponsored by SSCA and Motorik! Arts, a new group looking to promote noncommercial art in the subversive and political vein, the show hosts artists including Bill Hauser, Janelle Olson, Mark Murrmann, Matt Wells, and Motorik! founder Erik Farseth. The gallery exhibit will be celebrated with a closing party from 7 to 11 p.m. Saturday, April 16, and will feature live music by the Blind Shake and DJ [kramerica industries].
