2011 Minnesota Beard-Off

They're all around us. You might see one at the mall, spot one at a sporting event, or even have one yourself. From the slightest hint of peach fuzz to the grizzly ZZ Top-style face locks, beards are everywhere. At the 2011 Minnesota Beard-Off they're more than just a facial accessory—they are a way of life. Hosted at the Turf Club by local beard aficionado Andy Sturdevant, this annual event pits bearded man against bearded man (or faux-bearded lady) in a five-round contest of skill and styling. Watch the bearded best battle for the top spots in the full-beard, partial-beard (this includes mutton chops, chin straps, and goatees), moustache, and freestyle categories. The Minnesota Beard-Off shows facial hair isn't just for hipsters, so take back the good name of the beard and wear yours proudly. If you can't grow facial hair, never fear—there will also be a beard-making booth. You can even compete for the freestyle title with your faux beard, so don't be shy about your beard-making skills. Stephanie Nero will perform beard-inspired poetry for all, and DJ EZ will spin some beard-themed tunes.
