Woman as Photographer

In conjunction with its current exhibition, "Woman as Photographer: Documenting Life as a Woman," the Minneapolis Photo Center has assembled a panel of local aesthetic arbiters to discuss the roadblocks and revelations female photographers have experienced. Curator Darsie Alexander (Walker Art Center), exhibition juror Christina Chang (Weisman Art Museum), and MCADers Stevie Rexroth (media chair) and Katherine Turczan (professor of photography) will weigh in on such icons as Diane Arbus, Nan Goldin, and Cindy Sherman, discussing the investigations they undertook and assumptions they shattered. In photography's 170-year history, women practitioners have experimented with the medium and radicalized its meaning as art. This panel will provide a critical framework for discussing their ongoing innovations. $5-$10; RSVP to lectures@MplsPhotoCenter.com. (Elli Rader, Mother's Dress)
