Third Thursday: Clash of the Titans

Each third Thursday of the month the Minneapolis Institute of the Arts hosts an art party loaded with music, drinks, and amusements for culture-hungry Minnesotans. This month's upcoming Third Thursday will be a special themed event, titled Clash of the Titans. There are currently a few thematically appropriate exhibitions in the museum, including "Titian and the Golden Age of Venetian Painting" and "Beauty and Power: Renaissance and Baroque Bronzes from the Peter Marino Collection." Both exhibitions feature characters and deities from Greek mythology. Before the event, the museum is offering a God & Goddess Facebook quiz to determine which resident of Mt. Olympus you might feel an affinity with. Since the museum has so many amazing pieces on view, the quiz could even help you choose where to start. Not only will party-goers enjoy the standard cash bar and free reign in the exhibits, but they will also be treated to a special screening of the classic 1981 film Clash of the Titans, replete with Claymation monsters. In addition, online magazine l'étoile will provide Grecian styling assistance for an onsite photo booth. Live music will be supplied by Minnesota's own one-man wonder band Hastings 3000, who is able to play seven instruments simultaneously.
Thu., March 17, 6-9 p.m., 2011
