If Clint Eastwood can do it, so can veteran comic Drew Hastings. "I found myself in the position of running for mayor in this small town where I am," he says. That town is the city of Hillsboro, Ohio (population 6,469). Hastings has lived on a farm near the area for several years now, having fled Los Angeles and the accompanying phoniness. He insists that his standup career has prepared him perfectly to run for mayor of a small Midwestern community. "I've toured this country for 20 years, the Midwest particularly, and I've been to many, many small towns. I've seen what's going on in them. I've seen what killed small towns over the last 20 years, and what made some of them survive and succeed." His dry wit still tells the tale of man who doesn't quite fit in. "That's still true," he says. "Even when I hang out with other people who don't fit in, I don't fit in with them either. And it's like that with my farm. You could say that's a fish out of water thing. Running for mayor is a fish out of water thing. That's kind of the bent a lot of my standup takes these days." 18+.
