During last month's AIGA's "Evolvedesign: A Roundtable on the Evolution and Future of Graphic Design in Minnesota," Travis Olson, a graphic designer with Mono, talked about how the 21st-century design firm is interdisciplinary and multimedia. The focus for start-ups like Mono is on interactive and digital solutions for clients. Named Small Agency of the Year by Advertising Age in 2010, the Minneapolis-based Mono is increasingly sought out for its simply executed yet intriguingly multi-faceted communications for such design-savvy clients as Herman Miller, Apple, Blu Dot, and Airstream. On Tuesday, the Walker Art Center's Insights 2011 Design Lecture Series continues with Michael Hart, one of Mono's founders, discussing the firm's hybrid approach to developing experiences—rather than physical objects—for its rapidly growing roster of clients.
