Free First Saturday: Going to the Movies

Didn't get your film fix last Sunday watching the Oscars? This Saturday's free event at the Walker is all about the movies, too. But rather than epic dramas, today's family-friendly happenings will focus on the entertaining world of stop-motion animation. Budding filmmakers will be able to play casting director as they mold a colorful character from clay. Next, they can test their creation's acting skills at the animation station workshop hosted by animators Schell Hickel and Katie Maren. Throughout the day guests will also be able to take in some excellent animated shorts, including a retelling of Little Red Riding Hood, an adventure involving pigeons and an egg, and a retro sci-fi music video for the Thermals. The event culminates in a screening of the feature-length movie In the Attic, an adventure created by Czech filmmaker Jií Barta starring old toys.
Sat., March 5, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., 2011
