The Memory of Architecture

More About

Artist Kimberly Tschida Petters is an inveterate picture taker. As her camera lens captures the lines, forms, and compositional dynamics of the structures that catch her eyes, she's already distilling those fleeting images to their abstract essence, which she later renders on paper using oil, pastel, and ink. Margit Schmitt also works from photographs. Her oils on canvas capture, with a sense of memory's elusiveness, her impressions of the modernist buildings at the Oak Grove School in Ojai, California (which she attended as a youngster and in high school). The two St. Paul artists are featured this month at Raymond Avenue Gallery in St. Paul, in a show that evocatively combines art and architecture through mind, matter, and imagination.
