The mission of the Portland Cello Project is the take the cello (lots of cellos, actually) where no cello has gone before—or pretty damn rarely, anyway, like punk clubs, sports bars, and halftime at Trail Blazers basketball games. That includes an ambitious repertoire of originals, plus daring arrangements of everything from rock to jazz to hip hop from the likes of Bon Jovi, Dave Brubeck, Elliott Smith, Rihanna, and Kanye West. PCP (the group's appropriately addictive acronym) is renowned for epic, unique performances, invariably with distinctive lineups. Here, the seven core Portland cellists will be joined by their percussionist, yet a few more cellists (including Cloud Cult's Sarah Young), possibly an array of horns and winds, plus Portland guitarist/singer/songwriter Laura Gibson, who will also open.
