The Walker Art Center's Insights Design Series, in which legendary graphic designers rub elbows with emerging talent to enlighten all in attendance, kicks off its 25th year this Tuesday. Kevin Quealy, of the New York Times graphics department, is first up in the five-part series, with the much-lauded, much-discussed interactive feature, "Budget Puzzle: You Fix the Budget," he helped design. Think you've got an idea for reducing the federal budget deficit? The tool lets you play with billions of dollars and submit your game-changing solution. An alumnus of Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter (where he majored in physics), Quealy will regale the audience with tales of conveying news, the Olympics, Netflix rental patterns, and Iran's hidden nuclear facility through interactive visuals.
