Tired of the same old Valentine's Day routine? Can't bear the thought of another clichéd date movie? Don't want to deal with the throngs of restaurant-bound couples? Fret no more, the Victorian Poetry Slam at the James J. Hill House will do away with those heart-shaped woes. This pre-Valentine's Day event will be the perfect warm-up for that special night. Listen to funny and sentimental poetry by Victorian masters of verse including Poe, Dickinson, Longfellow, and Browning. Watch as Craig Johnson, Laura Salveson, and Ann Daly perform pieces about everything from love to sports while sporting authentic garb from the 1890s. Get in on the action by bringing a Victorian poem to recite in the refined and luxurious Hill House drawing room. However, if professing your love for literature (or your date) in front of an audience isn't your thing, the slam will be sure to inspire some verse of your own.
