DIY: Brewing With the Founding Fathers

What better way to learn about the American colonial era than to take in a talk while sampling a batch of beer made by Gera Exire LaTour, former president of the Minnesota Homebrew Association? The afternoon starts with a discussion, led by local historian and homebrewer Kris England, of the brew styles that George Washington likely enjoyed in his time as well as the foods that accompanied them. Aleah Vinick, program associate from the Minnesota Historical Society, will also be on hand to demonstrate historically apropos recipes and dishes, ensuring that tasting will be part of the educational experience. This workshop is an adjunct activity to the Minnesota History Center's George Washington exhibit, which opens February 22. And, as part of the museum's DIY series, this beer-centric lesson from Revolutionary War times is meant to inspire Twin Citians to reinvent some home-based yet historical cooking and, in this case, drinking traditions. 21+.
