Anthology

Concert photography is an unusual art form. Rather than creating an abstract piece or grand personal statement, these camera-equipped artists aim to capture moments that fade from reality the second after they happen. Great gig photography will take you back to the event, or at least make you feel as though you had been there. You'll find many excellent examples of this at "Anthology," an art show featuring concert pics by three pros regularly found on the scene: Erik Hess, Stacy Schwartz, and Steve Cohen. Musicians snapped include Jeremy Messersmith, Har Mar Superstar, P.O.S., and Cloud Cult. The exhibit, curated by l'etoile magazine's Kate Iverson and Robyn Lewis, and City Pages music editor Andrea Swensson, also features words alongside the images by local writers. The opening party, this Thursday from 6 to 11 p.m., will feature a special, top-secret performance as well as local music videos screening next door at Trylon Cinema.
