G.A.S.P.! Gender Anarchy Sex Positivity

Visual artists, educators, speakers, performers, poets, and musicians will be showcasing their interpretations of gender and healthy sexuality for G.A.S.P.! (Gender Anarchy Sex Positivity), a multi-disciplinary event taking place at Intermedia Arts from February 3 through March 6. The project includes a visual arts exhibition; its opening reception this Thursday features informative presentations (including one by Smitten Kitten), plus performances by numerous artists, including co-organizer Heidi Barton Stink, a trans-radical M.C. who creates positive hip hop with an emphasis on social justice and trans and queer rights. Other artists include Ignacio Rivera from Brooklyn, Dalice Malice from Chicago, and local performer Kaoz. The artists and speakers will take a look at non-conforming gender roles as well as sex-positive education through art and community organizing. There will be demonstrations on proper use of safer sex materials, and dialogues about sexual health and the fluidity of gender. Guests will take a look at how these subjects intersect through visual art, performance, and educational workshops. The opening reception is from 5 to 10 p.m. Thursday, February 3. (Sarah M. Sosa, Poetry Therapy)
