Brouhaha Comedy Festival

As we endure one of the fiercest winters in recent memory, besieged by unrelenting snow and frigid temperatures, the thought of adopting a reclusive lifestyle might have some appeal. Ultimately, however, self-imposed isolation is an invitation for cabin fever at best and The Shining-style madness at worst. Better to put away the ax, bundle up against the cold, and journey to the Southern Theater for the irreverently madcap Brouhaha Comedy Festival. Spanning five days, the event will offer versatile comedy pieces from emergent and some of the most renowned humorists in the Twin Cities. With sketches populated by lovelorn losers, benefit fundraisers for physically and mentally wounded "people and cats," and delusional operettas, the festival aims to showcase the vibrancy and innovation of local talent. Taken together, the six hour-long productions run a wild range of styles, from original plays to heavily improvised satire. For those with literary taste, there's even a bit of Chekov thrown into the mix. Each performance will run three times over the course of the festival, allowing multiple opportunities to savor every laugh. Though bleak and unending the winter may seem, the Brouhaha Comedy Festival promises enough levity to defrost even the iciest senses of humor.
