Some say that every photograph tells a story. What that story is may vary from viewer to viewer. This openness to interpretation is explored in "A Reasonable Facsimile," an exhibition that ties images together in very interesting ways. The experiment began with a postcard of a photo by Michelle Westmark. The artist mailed her piece to another photographer, who then created his own postcard inspired by her work, which he then sent on to another artist, and so forth. The result is part creative exploration, part chain mail, and part photographic dialogue. For example, an image of a foamy tide at the beach leads to soapy dishes, which is followed by a shot of a miniature beach, then on to a picture of a guy sleeping in the sand. The threads that tie each image to the next are sometimes tenuous or quiet, other times bold. Regardless, the progression is simultaneously playful and fascinating.
