Open Skate

Of all the rinks around town, the Depot Skating Rink is probably the only one that is recognized nationally. In past years the space has not only made MSNBC and USA Today's top 10 lists for best skating across the U.S., but Olympic gold medalist Kristi Yamaguchi has even cited the rink as one of her favorites. It's easy to see why: The converted carriage house is a unique venue, with large, tall windows that allow for downtown views. Added bonus: Unlike frozen ponds, the Depot's temperature is warm enough to make that hot-chocolate break a luxury, not a necessity. The location is ideal as well. It's a perfect date activity before dinner or after taking in a play at the Guthrie, and the rink is kid-friendly for younger skaters working on their moves (rent a trainer for $2 if your skills and stability are particularly precarious). And while the rink is open on the holidays, if you don't make it out for Christmas, don't worry. There will be plenty of open skate opportunities before it closes in mid-March.
