The Holiday Pageant

It's safe to say that Open Eye Figure Theatre's The Holiday Pageant will be the only Christmas-season show in the Twin Cities to feature Lucifer in a starring role. The production, from master puppeteer Michael Sommers, recasts elements of the familiar Christmas story by adding a fallen angel into the mix. Over the past decade, Pageant has existed in several forms: as a full-fledged run at the Southern, followed by one-night stands around town featuring plenty of different performers. The current edition, re-crafted for Open Eye's small south Minneapolis theater, features music by Victor Zupanc arranged for a small choir, with Elise Langer as Lucifer's minion, and puppeteers Andy Kraft and Liz Schacterle as Mary and Joseph, all led by Sommers as the evil man in red himself. The entire festive experience is topped with homemade cookies and hot cider. The 2010 edition also marks the final time Open Eye plans to produce the show, so catch a little devil with your Christmas celebration while you can.
