By now you have probably spent a good deal of time with the family, have done some shopping, and have taken the time to pause for pretty outdoor Christmas lights. Large amounts of food and drink have also most likely been enjoyed. So, why not get outdoors and get some exercise beyond mall walking and struggling with the Christmas tree? This Saturday marks the grand seasonal re-opening for free wintertime skating in Rice Park. Stop by at 5 p.m. for a ribbon-cutting, tree-lighting ceremony, live entertainment, and fireworks, followed by open skate. Can't make it Saturday? During the season there will be plenty of opportunities to visit the rink, which makes for an excellent break after a trip to the Science Museum, an excuse to drop off a house full of teenagers, or a playful ice-breaker before heading out to dinner with a date. Bring your skates, or flash a Wells Fargo credit or check card for free rentals (it's $2 otherwise), then warm up with some hot chocolate and snacks in the heated tent afterward. For open skating times, visit www.wellsfargowinterskate.com. No skating Christmas or New Year's Day.
