Zenon Dance Company: Women Choreographers of the Americas

The women rule in Zenon's 28th season, which features works by choreographers Andrea Miller and Colleen Thomas from New York, and Susana Tambutti and luciana achugar from South America. Electrifying physicality with emotional heft infiltrates Miller's "Picnic, Lighting," reprised from 2009. Tambutti's deconstructed tango "Like an Octopus" has a sleek Eurodance edge, while achugar creates transgressive work that, in her own words, "subverts the idea that the carnal and primitive side of ourselves is lesser." She may insist on lower case for her name, but her work is definitely high concept dance theater. And if Thomas's 2007 "Catching Her Tears (44º N, 93 º W)" is any indication, her new work promises to exploit the wry wit and personal charisma of the phenomenal Zenon dancers.
