Tim Uren knows how to tell a good, ghoulish story. His interpretation of H.P. Lovecraft's "The Rats in the Walls" was a Minnesota Fringe Festival highlight a few years ago, while his other forays into the genre have also been well received. Considering the pulpy nature of those previous pieces, it's only fitting that he tackles a story from Robert W. Chambers's The King in Yellow at this Maximum Verbosity double bill; the 1895 collection had a profound influence on the "weird tales crowd" to follow, including Lovecraft. Uren presents a new adaptation of the collection's opening story, "The Repairer of Reputations," which takes you to the far flung future of the 1920s, where if you are feeling blue you can end it all in a government sponsored Lethal Chamber (hmm, sound familiar?), and where a banned play may contain the secrets of the world for disturbed narrator Hildred Castaigne. Meanwhile, Rockstar Storyteller phillip low brings out the macabre with Quantum Suicide and Other Songs of Death, a selection of sketches and stories about, well, you can tell from the title. (It's dedicated to "everyone who is dying. Especially you.") Be sure to come in costume for Saturday's performance, and join the cast afterward at Town Hall Brewery.
Thursdays-Saturdays, 7:30 p.m. Starts: Oct. 28. Continues through Oct. 30, 2010
