Poster Offensive 5

The poster is an incredibly versatile and functional form of art. Not only can it demonstrate a wide variety of aesthetics, but it can also disseminate information and make powerful statements. Plus, it can look as good framed on a wall as it does when glued to a light post, and it's usually relatively affordable. Friday night, guests will be able to check out what poster artists from around the country are up to at the fifth annual "Poster Offensive" art show. With the midterm elections ramping up, statements will be loud and clear at this nonpartisan—but very political—show, from work featuring Sarah Palin as the queen of spades, to moratoriums on the car industry, to cutting and personal proclamations made in dramatic, large fonts. Posters will also cover issues surrounding classism, wealth, and the environment (expect lots of creative rage against the oil spill). Locals exhibiting include Adam Turman and Aesthetic Apparatus. The opening reception begins at 7 p.m. Friday, October 29. (Pictured: Art by Aesthetic Apparatus)
